Okay, so since I could remember, I have been obsessed with piercings, but because of my job I have not been able to get many visible ones, such as on my face, etc. Ears are fine, as well as of course, beneath the clothes. Currently, other than my rook i have my tragus, daith, horizontal navel and regular, uninteresting navel piercing. I love my rook though, out of all of my ear piercings. It seems as if many people are getting the tragus piercing lately, so it's beginning to seem less and less original as time progresses.
At A Glance Author Kaylie When Three months ago Studio The Pin Cushion Location Plymouth MA So one day, I was looking for piercings, and I came across the rook piercing on BMEzine.com. I LOVED it, I thought it was adorable and I knew that I needed to get it. I waited a couple of weeks and then I headed down to The Pin Cushion in Plymouth, which is an AWESOME studio with great artists, they're cute too for all the girls reading this! Haha, well anyways, I knew that they'd do a good job, and of course they did. Well back to the experience, I'll be as detailed as possible.
When I told them what I wanted done, they asked me if someone else I knew had the piercing, because they don't get too many people asking for the piercing. I hadn't known anyone, which made the piercing feel more significant to me. I lyed down on my side, with my ear facing up, while the piercer performed the normal stuff.. cleaning of the ear, telling you of the procedure, etc etc. I didn't really expect it to hurt too much, because I mean I've always been fine with piercings. My piercer then began the actual needle and flesh process. Well, I kind of like this part, but I also kind of hate it. You all know what I'm talking about. The pain is good, but sucks also. So when the needle went it, it wasn't a quick poke, it was more gradual, but just because I have REALLY thick cartilage, thicker than average I'm guessing. It hurt a bit, kind of burned, but that's going to happen no matter what. The jewelry went in easily, although the ball on the captive ring was kind of hard to get it because of the angle of the piercing. My piercer was really happy because the piercing was deeper than he had expected. I was happy too because it's not too close to the edge of the cartilage, if you get what i'm saying. It bled slightly but nothing drastic, nothing more than I had expected. I LOVED it. It was so cute and I was so glad I got it.
It was a little crusty for the first week or so, and alot of that crust was a blood, but it cleaned off easily with water. Nothing too gross, you gotta expect a little blood. I cleaned it with a q-tip and a little water and soap, and it was fine. The cleaning wasn't hard, and it healed SO GOOD, amazing actually. It wasn't even sore to sleep on, at all! That was surprising, and I was relieved, because you gotta sleep comfortably! After a month it was completely and fully healed, no blood, no crust. I changed the CBR after a month or so, and put a silver barbell in, which made it alot easier to take in or out (because I play on a soccer league I have to). When I went to take the CBR out however, the opening did not want to fit around my rook, and i couldn't open it with anything. I had to go down to the studio and have them open it up, and while I was there they offered to change the jewelry. If you ever have a problem getting your jewelry in/out.. just go to your studio, they 'll be happy to do it! They love to see that you enjoy your piercing and that it healed/looks well.
I still absolutely love this piercing, and it's so worth it. If i could keep one piercing on my ear, out of the 13 that I have, I would keep this. I love getting the reaction from people, "oh did that hurt?", and all I can think is, "is this the most drastic piercing you've ever seen or something?", because it's not. I have respect for those who have their ears stretched with really large gauges. Good for you! But back to me. It looks really good and heals really easily as long as you keep up with it, which isn't hard to do at all. Take this piercing into consideration! It's a good piercing to have, and definately one of my favorites, and I guarantee if you get it, it'll be one of yours also!
