Well, I've been under the illustrious lure of body modification for as long as I can remember. When I was little, I had seen a man with tattoos covering his arms at the park or the grocery store or something. I don't remember where or when but I remember him and from then on I knew that I was going to get at least one tattoo. And when I turned 18, I did, and at the time I honestly thought that was going to be the only thing that I did to my body. But damn , this stuff is addicting. And I love it all. So after 2 tattoos and stretching my second holes to about a 4 so far, I wasn't quite ready to get another tattoo, even though that is definitely in the plans. (Definitely not something to rush into.) So while searching around BME one day I came across the pictures and stories about the rook and decided that would be my next form of 'modification'.

So one glorious pay day, I decide to finally get my rook done. I take my friend Kristen along with me and we head over to Pleasureable Piercings in Hawthorne, New Jersey. I have been there many times before, I had gotten my tongue pierced there as well as all my gages. They are pretty cool over there, and the one guy that does the piercings kicks ass. So I go in there with my friend and we go up to the counter and I tell the guy that I want my rook pierced. I really did not want a hoop, just one of those curved pieces with the balls on each end, but they said that they only pierce with the hoops, but that I could change it once it healed, and that it would take about 6 weeks to heal. So I said 'no prob' and we went ahead. So I signed all I had to sign and payed my money and then the guy at the counter put the hoop in a little cup with disinfectant stuff and we waited for the piercer to be ready. The piercer was ready about 4 seconds later.

We go into the piercing room, and the piercer tells me to have a seat. (I don't remember his name and that sucks b/c he's a really cool guy). He takes out a sharpie-esque pen, which he later gives me and is the best pen in the world, and he marks my ear with it. I check out the dot and give my approval and he says great. He take out his equipment, which I don't know the technical terms for, sorry, I just call it the 'big needle'. He tells me to relax and off he goes! The pain of the piercing wasn't too horrible. I mean, it hurt, but it really wasn't too bad. He puts the hoop in and the worst of it is his closing the thing, but he does it fairly quickly and all is good. He gives my a mirror to check it out and I am completely happy with my new hole. He then gives me cleaning solution and says to q-tip with it twice a day and to keep it clean.

My ear is bright and red and hot and hurts, but I love it. When I saw it done, I was very glad that I decided to get it. I cleaned the piercing religiously, and it did hurt like a bitch when I would forget and hit it, or when stupid people would give me hugs or whatever and knock my ear! (ouch!) It was crusty a lot and didn't move through the hole easily for quite a while, and for some time a pimple like thing was right over it, but that stuff is expected. I wasn't too worried b/c it soon stopped getting pimply and now moves easily through the hole.

So it's been about 6 months since I have gotten my rook and I absolutely love it. Definitely, definitely worth it. If you're worried about the pain factor, don't. The good definitely out weighs the bad on this one. I'm planning on changing the hoop to the curved piece soon, probably on another pay day. Go Rook!

So now, all rooked out, and it's been a while, I am now looking for what to do next to myself. I am in the works of a new tattoo, probably going on my wrist. Taking my time on that one since it's such a visible spot, and I am also looking for more ear jewelry. I am definitely interested in the snug piercing, in my right ear this time, it's just a cute one and I think that it would compliment my rook very nicely.

So go forth and pierce away!!!
