I have always had a keen interest in piercings. I never really spoke to anyone about it, especially to my parents. I knew what my mother's reaction would be. In junior high, I pierced each ear three times myself. I did it plain and simple, probably not taking all of the precautions I should have. I used a sewing needle and alcohol, numbing the first two holes in each ear with ice. Each pair of piercings stood about a month apart. By the third piercing, I got so anxious I didn't even take the time to make sure my ear was fully numbed. Sure it hurt a little, but I was so happy with the end result that I didn't ever want to stop.

I settled for the six piercings in my ears until the end of my freshman year in high school, where I gradually broke it off to my mother that I wanted to get my bellybutton pierced. I kept up with the cleaning regime with a very useful product called H2Ocean. All I had to do was spray it directly onto my bellybutton. In August of that year, I had it done. It was a small prick and didn't hurt in the least. In January I decided to get my rook pierced. I had previously had three cartilage piercings in December as a Christmas present from my dad, ( Although they were not really presents considering I paid for them). I persuaded my mom to let me get another piercing and fooled her into thinking I had done all cartilage piercings myself. I tried convincing her of my tongue but when my dad found out, my plans were shattered.

I had been thinking about other piercings that are not so common amongst my peers. I knew I wanted to do something with my ears and the brilliant idea of getting my rook done popped into my head. After a little work, my mom agreed to take me. I went to a great place called Tribal. They were having a closing out sale so everything was half off. That means piercings were only $9.50 plus jewelry! We filled out the proper paper work and waited a bit. The place was busy do to the sale. My mom became very nervous and went out for a smoke and a walk...just like she did for my belly button piercing (heehee). She was definitely more nervous than I was. I became very excited during the two hour wait. Like I said, the place was really busy. During my wait I chatted a bit with the owner and looked through some tattoo pictures. I watched people sit in the waiting room, go into the piercing room and come out either drained of color or with a big smile across their faces.

I finally got in for my piercing. I got a great girl named Angie. She couldn't have been any nicer. I took a seat and watched as she brought out all of the supplies. We talked of how long she had been piercing and tattooing and of other piercings and tattoos she had. She said she had her nipples pierced which was the perfect time to ask questions since I had been thinking about nipple piercings. She briefly explained the procedure. She cleaned the area and marked me. I checked to see if I liked the placement, and I did. She put the needle in place and even did the breathing exercises with me. On the last breath she pushed the needle through. I have to admit it hurt. The pain only lasted a very short time and the needle was through before I knew it. Once the needle was through, I was perfectly fine. I felt nothing but the warmth of my freshly pierced ear. It also stung a bit when she had to pull the needle out. It was wedged in my ear pretty good so it seemed to take a tat l onger to pull it out. After the rook, I decided to get another cartilage piercing in the same ear. (Bringing it to a grand total of six piercings in my right ear and five in my left.) Being as my ear had just had a needle shoved through it, it was still a little sore so the cartilage piercing sent a stinging pain down the side of my face. But it was all bearable and well worth it. I am extremely pleased with my rook piercing. None of my friends have this piercing and I still get asked about it. It's great. Piercing is supposed to be fun...so have fun with it! I recommend this to anyone who is thinking about an ear piercing. It's also a very easy up keep regime. Now I am soon going to get a surface piercing and nipple piercing, like I said up above. I can't wait!
