I had only seen one person with an industrial bar and I thought it looked so cool. I figured it would be a pretty simple piercing and I like to do things without putting too much thought into them. I told my closest friends here at college (my girls). Since I did not want my parents to freak about a bar through my ear, I called my mom and asked for her permission. She called me back a few hours later and said that this would be okay.... "This is your ear and your pain to deal with."
At A Glance Author Stunna Contact Stunna@bme.anon When Six months ago It was Friday night and my friends and I took a little trip to one of the tattoo and piercing places uptown. The first place turned me down saying they did not have the right size bar. So we crossed the street and stopped into another place. I really wanted this piercing done that night. The piercing guy, I shall call him Bill, took a look at my ear and pulled out a 1", 14-gauge bar. I have pretty small ears so the bar would not have to be too long. Bill and some of the other guys at the studio cracked some jokes with me and my friends before taking me back into a smaller room. I have to admit, the place was not as clean and professional looking as the first place that originally turned me down.
After showing my I.D. and signing some papers, he told me to sit down on the table and I gripped onto my friend's hand. He showed me the needle, saying that they only use disposable needles and this one would only be used on me. He cleaned my ear and made some more jokes to lighten me up a little. I had not been nervous until this point. I found out later that most people get 2 separate holes first and a few months later, they have the bar put in. Not me. I was getting the bar straight up.
He put on the rubber gloves and tilted my head. My friends tried to get me to laugh to grab my attention away from the needle. I do not usually use profanity but the next thing I knew, I was yelling every swear word that exists. I have never felt pain quite like this before and it took about 2-3 min for the whole piercing. Jamming a large needle and then a large bar through the one hole is bad, but then there was the second hole. I am not a crier but I did turn really pale. My friends were really worried. They thought I would pass out. It was such a rush though. The adrenaline was pumping throughout my body so fast. Finally, he screwed the balls onto the barbell and I was set. He told me to use a special ear piercing antiseptic solution a few times a day. I sat there for a little while with a cold paper towel and a fan. I looked into the mirror and I loved it.
It was pretty sore for a few hours but the bleeding was minimal. However, in the next 2 weeks that followed, I started having problems. The bar was too short and my ear tissue had started to grow up over the ball on the top of the bar. The stress caused a lot of pain, pus, and blood. I went back into the studio to ask about my situation. Bill told me to come back as soon as I could and he'd order me a longer bar. I went in a few days late and had a 1 ¾ bar put in this time. What a difference... no more pain. Since the stress was taken off my ear, the soreness and redness went away. I still bleed a little (3 months later) when my hair gets caught in it or I sleep on it. But I learned to deal with pain and it is all worth it to me.
I have had so many comments on it. Everyone is pretty amazed by the look of a bar through the ear. A lot of people ask about it. Yes, it hurts a lot when having it done. I do not know if it is better that I had the bar straight up or if I should have had 2 separate C.B.R.'s for a few months. I don't think I could have waited that long though. It is high maintenance and it is probably a lot easier if you have short hair but I don't regret a thing about it. One small word of advice for you ladies with long hair: try not to get hair products such as hairspray onto the piercing. After you shower or if you do use hair products, clean the ear immediately with the antiseptic. You will definitely draw attention, and in my opinion, attention is worth a little pain.
