If someone would have asked me a year ago about piercings, I would have told them that piercings were cool but not really my thing. At that time my coolest piercing was a navel ring. But after getting my rook pierced, everything changed. It kind of opened doors for me, and now I want piercings that are seriously bad ass, not wimpy.

I was at the mall and saw a girl with a rook piercing, of course I didn't know it was called a rook piercing then but I still thought it was cool. I remembered it for a couple years, and I was surfing the net one day and decided to look at piercing pictures. I didn't know what any of the piercings were so I just clicked on random ones and looked at them. Then I found the rook piercing. I fell in love with it even more and wanted it pierced. However, I'd promised that I wouldn't get any more piercings after my navel, so I was kind of screwed.
Well, I was visiting my dad in Louisiana last summer and wanted my rook pierced. My grandmother was going to take me as an early birthday present, but my dad wouldn't let her. He really didn't want me to get anything pierced, since he doesn't really approve of piercings in the first place. But after begging he finally decided to take me. Since I was only 14 at the time, I had to have a parent anyways, but since I was only visiting LA I wasn't familiar with the laws or anything. My cousins had gone to Natural Mystik a few weeks before to get navel piercings, and Natural Mystik was the closest piercing place, so I decided to go there. We got there and asked about the piercing I wanted, and only a couple of people knew what I was talking about. But then they told me that I would need a birth certificate to verify that the guy I was with was really my dad, so we had to drive back home (which takes 20 minutes), get the birth certificate, then come back. I was pretty sore about th at, but there wasn't much I could do since that's the law.
So, we were finally back at Natural Mystik and I was feeling pretty anxious. There was a little confusion about the piercing I wanted, but finally a piercer said he would do it. My dad and I had to fill out forms, and they had to make copies of my birth certificate, my permit, and my dad's license. After that I took the form back to the piercer (maybe his name was Bobby? I have no clue) and got ready to get pierced. Some kid was there, he looked about my age, and he asked if he could go back and watch my piercing, but the piercer told him no. I went back into this little room with the piercer and this incredibly cute guy who was training to be a piercer. He told me I could hold his hand if I wanted to while I got pierced. Who's dumb enough to turn that one down? He opened the clamp, needle, and jewelry in front of me, which I didn't like at all because I was afraid of needle *back then* (I'm not afraid of them anymore btw). The piercer got everything ready and I grabbed the hand of the other guy. First he clamped it, which from my navel piercing I thought was the worst part. I said 'ow' and somebody in the waiting room was like "I just heard the ow" and the piercer told them that it wasn't even the needle yet. After that I really don't remember all that much, just little pieces. I remember the needle going through the first part of my rook and thinking, Yeah, this isn't so rough, then feeling the needle crunch through the lower part of my rook. The sound was probably the worst part, then I leaned up and my ears started to ring and I was out. It's weird, I remember everything that happened when I was blacked out, I just couldn't wake up. The trainer was talking to me through it, telling me it was almost over, but the jewelry wasn't in still. While the trainer worked on my jewelry, the piercer told my dad that some big guy had gotten his nipples pierced and passed out from that, so I wasn't doing too bad. Finally, my jewelry was in. It was just a simple CBR, but I love it, I still wear it sometimes.
I thought my rook was so badass, and I'm so glad that I decided to get it pierced. It was definitely my crossover piercing, going from piercings that are definitely kinda wimpy, to piercings that involve at least a little more pain. Since my rook piercing I have done two lobe piercings by myself :D, my own eyebrow, which I had to get rid of, and my nostril. I've also stretched my lobes from wearing regular earrings to having 2 10 gauges, a 12 gauge, and I stretched my DIY lobes to 16's. I also stretched my cartilage from a 16 to a 10, and I plan on stretching it even more. I would definitely recommend a rook piercing to anyone who likes piercings that are a little less common, but still pretty cool. Watch sleeping on it though, mine still gets a little irritated and I've had it for 8 months now.
