So I am a sophomore in college, well sort of, but anyway, I transferred to the University of Oregon this year after a rather boring year at community college. And I apologize ahead of time in case I begin to ramble, I have a tendency to do that at times, though I will try my hardest not to. Before I moved to Eugene, I had heard so many good things about High Priestess Piercing. My older sister and many of her roommates (she's had a total of seven at one time) had gone to High Priestess to get various piercings including nostril, ear piercings, and one even had her clit successfully pierced. I knew once I was settled in I had to celebrate with a new piercing. As I thought about it more, the more I ached for a piercing. I tend to almost crave them if it's been a while since I've had something pierced. Sadly, I am stuck in the dorms this year since I wasn't able to find an affordable place to live off campus. As I met some of the other girls I would be living with, I found that a few of them had the desire to get some of their first piercings, other than earlobes.

We got together a group of five or six of us and and walked over to High Priestess. This turned out to be a much longer walk than any of us expected. It took us nearly a half an hour since a couple girls were walking a little slow....well more than a little, a lot. Some of the girls were getting some more common piercings like their ear cartilage and nostril piercings. I say common because every time I turn around in Eugene there is another girl with her nostril or cartilage pierced. I on the other hand really wanted my rook done. I had taken a friend to Black Hole in Portland to get hers done a few months before and she loved hers, she also told me it didn't hurt at all. I would later find out that she must have just said that, because it was a different situation for me. We walked in and everyone got set up with the proper paper work. Once that was done each of us picked out jewelry. I decided to go with a 16 gauge barbell in my right ear. While I like the look of a ring, I prefer the barbell. I was the last person to be called back out of the group. My piercer was Josh Ricketts and he was one of the best piercers I have ever come across.

Now I am no stranger to pain, I very much enjoy getting pierced, but my rook was one of my more painful piercings. I would almost dare to say that it was just as bad if not worse than getting my nipples done. Don't get me wrong though, it's not like I cried or anything, but I did flinch a little. We chatted throughout the process. He even told me I had "a good rook for piercing", which made me even more excited. But Josh was so gentle and I didn't even feel the jewelry as he screwed it in. I couldn't believe how wonderful the experience was. I thanked him and walked back out to the front desk. Because we had such a large group, we received ten percent off our jewelry. This is another great reason I have gone back to High Priestess, besides the fact that they employ some of the best piercers I have come across.

It was probably no more than a week before I was able to sleep on my right ear again. I think the only pain I experienced was the pressure from the needle when I got the piercing done. Other than that there were no problems. After about a month I went back in to get my jewelry downsized. Alas, Josh wasn't working that day. Instead I had Autumn change my jewelry, which went in without a problem, though she did have a little trouble getting the balls screwed in since there isn't very much room to work with.

It's been a little over three months since I had my rook done and I can honestly say it is almost my favorite piercing! I've had my nipples pierced for two years now, and they are definitely my favorites, but my rook is a very close second. The same day I had my rook pierced I talked to Josh about doing a project with my upper ear cartilage that I have in my left ear and had hoped to start it once my rook had healed. Sadly, Josh passed away earlier this month, and I no longer wish to start the project because it was supposed to be his work.
