Hey everyone! First off, I would like to tell everyone that DIY piercing is NOT the way to go, and that you should always go to a professional to get a piercing. The risks of infection are too high, but if you are a stupid rebellious teenager like me, then you'll probably end up piercing yourself anyway. If you MUST rebel against the parentals and you are just ITCHING for new metal, then please, stick with your ears...anything else might be very nasty if you try to do it yourself!!!

Anyway, enough of that. I'm about to tell you about my DIY third lobe piercing, which I literally did about 30 minutes ago. So here goes, with some background information so you aren't totally lost...

Ok I got my ears pierced for the first time when I was six. Fun stuff. When I was ten, I begged my parents for second holes. Surprisingly, they let me. We went to the mall and I got them done...and I was so excited, since I was the first person in my whole school to get second holes...very daring. Ever since then, I've wanted third holes and a cartilage piercing. That brings us to now, at age fourteen.

I've begged my parents for the lobes and/or cartilage, but they won't budge. So, being the idiot I am, I decided to do it myself. Right now. I want this done RIGHT NOW. Stupid, I know. Anyway, I got a sewing needle (about 20 G) and doused it in rubbing alcohol. Then I got a new cork (that I bought just for this purpose, as I've been planning to pierce SOMETHING for a while) and also doused it in alcohol. I then got an earring that I got pierced with for my second holes (the unshaved kind) and once again, soaked it in alcohol. I'm sort of a wimp, so I wanted to get ice. However, I was too lazy to go downstairs, so I didn't.

So, here comes the fun part. I took a pen and marked where I wanted my hole. About the same distance as my other two holes, and just a little more upward, to match the curve of my ear. It looked perfect. By the way, I was doing my left ear, since I was right handed. This would make things much easier. Anyway, I took the needle and started to push. Like I said, I'm a baby, so I just barely pushed. It kind of stung, like a mosquito bite. Nothing major. I pushed a little harder. It just kept stinging, but it didn't really hurt.

I kept pushing for about 30 minutes. It got boring, and I was watching TV. Finally, I got tired, and I wanted my piercing, so I got close up to my mirror and pushed. Not too hard, but enough pressure to move the needle through my ear. It was odd...I've read so many ear piercing stories to know that I would hear crunching as the needle passed through layers of my skin, but I have to tell you, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And I'm a wimp!

One layer. Two layer. It wasn't that bad, or that loud. I was expecting the worst. Then, 30 minutes later, I could feel the needle on the backside of my ear, but it wasn't through yet. I wanted ice, but I told myself no. I kept pushing. The stinging grew worse, and my ear was slightly throbbing, although it wasn't awful. POP!!! Finally, the needle was through. Just a little, but enough. It stung. Honestly, after all I have read about these DIY ear piercings, I expected a loud pop (it was pretty quiet, like the crunching) and I expected it to be really hard to poke the hole through the back skin. It was pretty easy, actually. I took the needle out and tried to replace it with the earring, but that didn't work. I stuck the needle back in (with some difficulty, and I heard some new crunches...gross) and rotated it a little. That was probably the most painful part, let me tell you. I took the needle out again and put in my earring. It didn't go all the way in, but I just pushed a little, and with another POP, it was in. FINALLY!!!

Well that's my ear piercing adventure. Thanks for reading. Feel free to e-mail me ( I think I left the link) and ask me about any questions you have. I'm kind of nervous about my parents....I don't intend on telling them, or having them find out for a few months. Once a few months pass, and then they find out, I can tell them how long I've had it, and hopefully they won't TOTALLY flip. Also, I'm worried because I'm a cheerleader, and our competition for nationals is in three weeks. I'm worried that my mom will find out! Oh well...I'll find a way with fishing line or something.

Just so you know and you don't go doing something stupid, I've only had this hole in me now for about an hour. It turned out a little higher than I wanted (I think I pushed on a diagonal), but I'm not about to do it all over again. What I'm getting at is that I don't even know how this thing is going to heal. Heck, I might take it out tomorrow if it looks like it's doing bad. If you want to know how it turns out, e-mail me. Also, I'm always bored and on AIM, but e-mail me for my screenname, please. And just so you know, this piercing didn't hurt NEARLY as much as I expected it to. It was pretty pain-free, actually! It just stung a bit.

FYI, I also want to even out my lobes and get a right third hole, maybe a fourth and fifth on each side, a right cartilage, a rook, tongue, nipples, and navel. I'll probably (if any) only do the cartilage by myself...the rest is up to the pros for me!!!
