After I got my last tattoo my mom made me promise that I wouldn't get anymore piercings or tattoos until I was out of the house, I had already had my tongue and belly button pierced and two tattoos. "I don't care what you do to do your ears, but nothing other than that," she told me. After a couple of weeks with my tattoo, my itching for something new came back to me. So I got on BME and started looking up ear piercings, since it wouldn't be going against my promise to my mom.

I could not believe how cute it looked. I knew that I couldn't get it done until I went back to school because the place that I work over summer is very strict about having "non-traditional" body piercings or visible tattoos. I showed a couple of friends what I wanted to get done. All of the guys said "very sexy, but it looks like its gonna hurt like hell." I wasn't worried about it hurting though, I wanted it bad.
So I waited all summer and then the first night back at school I was at a party and one of my friends Jen was there and I was telling her about how I wanted to get a new piercing and she said something like "yeah, me too, I want to get my rook done". I was so shocked that she knew what a rook was, since everybody else that I had told looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned the word "rook". We made plans to eventually go together to get our rooks pierced.
Two days later I walked out of my last class and grabbed my cell phone to call Jen. I wanted to get pierced then! When I finally got a hold of her she said that she was up to do it that day, so I drove over to her apartment and picked her and her roommate Jill up. We drove from SRU to Micky's in Butler, the only piercing place in the area that I had heard nothing but good things about. It was my first time at Micky's and I was quite impressed, besides being in a semi-scary location (it's kind of in the middle of nowhere), the place was very nice and clean. We all started to look at jewelry and the pictures that were on the walls. Then the piercer, Amy, came up to us and asked what we were looking to get done. We told her and we talked a little bit about the piercing. I volunteered to go first because I knew that Jen was a little nervous. I decided on a barbell because I'm not too fond of hoops.
So Amy took Jen, Jill, and I into the piercing room, which I wasn't used to because at Buddha's they don't let anyone else go into the rooms with you. I sat down in the chair and Amy went on to explain everything that was going to happen and went over all of the sterilization that the needles and jewelry went through. She showed us all of the packages and opened them in front of us. Then she marked my ear where the needle would be going through, I couldn't see it in the mirror but I told her that I trusted her judgment and that what she had was ok with me. She then told me that when she was going to pierce me she would be telling me how to breathe, she said that it would help make the piercing less painful. I think that was the first time that I got worried about the pain. It really did look like a painful piercing, but oh well. Amy got everything in place and then told me to count to three and take a deep breath. I did as she said and felt a little pressure in my ear, and that was it. There really wasn't much pain, no more than a regular cartilage piercing, and I never heard or felt a pop in my ear. It took her a couple of minutes to put the barbell in and screw on the last ball. Once she had everything in place I got up and looked in the mirror and fell in love with my new piercing.
Then it was Jen's turn to get pierced, unlike me she jumped a little bit when the needle was going through. She got a hoop put in, and it actually didn't look too bad on her.
After Jill got her eyebrow bar changed and we all paid we headed to Wal-Mart to get some distilled water to make our saltwater baths with. We had to soak our ears twice a day for 10 minutes or so at a time. It was a little uncomfortable trying to get the water in that place, but I found that if you put the water in a cup and then hold it up to your ear that works the best.
Its been about 3 months since I had my rook pierced and I absolutely love it, it is easily my favorite piercing!
