I got my Industrial piercing about 3 months ago at Sins of the Skins. I have a few other piercings and a tattoos but by far this piercing was my favorite, and by far the most painful. I had did some research about it and the possible risks, and came to the conclusion that I was just going to go for it. I figured if I kept it clean and followed all the directions I would not get a keloid, or it wouldn't reject or anything else terrible that could happen with a cartilage piercing. So anyway, I have been dating this guy for quite some time and it was our 2 year anniversary, we went to a nice restaurant for dinner and then he asked what I would like to do next... and to his surprise I answered "lets go to Sins of the Skin and get my piercing", and with a puzzled look on his face he replied "uhhh okay?" I don't think he was expecting me to say that.

The place was about 45 minutes away, but I don't mind the travel because I knew that they would do a god job and I felt comfortable there and that's what matters most. When I got there, I walked in and talked to the piercer and he said he was leaving, so sad I became... but then he told me that he would make an exception and stay a few minutes later for me, I WAS SOO EXCITED! Like I said before, I knew this place was clean and I trusted everyone there because I had all my tattoos done there and referred a few of my friends to get theirs done there too. So I walked past the other people getting their work (tattoos) done, and entered the piercing room. I was SOOO excited that I forgot to get nervous; I guess this was a good thing. I think my boyfriend was more nervous than me, I don't know why because he has a Prince Albert, and that's a little crazier than an industrial piercing. By the way, any guys thinking about a PA, go for it... I personally love it on him, and he tells me that it awesome. But anyway, back to my piercing....

So the guy took all of his tools out and showed them to me so I knew that they were clean and packaged, but I didn't have any doubt. He asked me to place the bar where I wanted it, and then he marked my ear and asked me to check one more time to make sure it was absolutely perfect, and it was. I took a few deep breaths and after a couple seconds when I was exhaling he inserted the first needle, OUCH did that hurt! I instantly became tense because I knew the second one would be the same, and damn if it wasn't... but worse then the pain was the noise, I could actually hear it going through the cartilage, it was like a popping sound. But thankfully, it happened really fast, so before I knew it I was staring at my new piercing in the mirror and I absolutely LOVED IT. . As soon as I stood up, I could feel the heat and throbbing sensation radiating from my ear, it wasn't pleasant. He then asked if he could take a picture of it for his scrap book since it turned out so nice, I didn't bleed or anything. I don't know how people can say that they have had this done and it didn't hurt at all, because I personally have a pretty high pain tolerance, and I thought it hurt like hell. But anyway, in a few hours I got home, I had to make some stops on the way to show all my friends, and to encourage them to go for it since some of them were a little shakey about the whole thing.

That night was terrible, it hurt sooo bad, and actually it hurt for a few days after too. I was terrified to clean it cause I new it would be so sore to move, but I grit my teeth and followed all of the cleaning instructions, I didn't want anything to go wrong. But the pain "slowly" disappeared and the piecing became a part of me, and I still to this day, love it more than anything! Now it has been a few months and the only time it hurts is if I have a rough night sleeping or if I snag it while doing my hair. So if anyone is curious about what it is like.... IT HURTS, but it is totally worth it! If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. And if you live in the Maryland area, Sins of the Skin on Pulaski Highway is great, I wouldn't go anywhere else.
