I had been looking for a more original mod for some time, and had originally decided on getting a hand web, as I had only ever seen it done on one person before, and thought it looked amazing. After giving it a lot of thought (how I was going to work with it and so forth) I decided upon a date for my mod and arranged a friend to come with me.

When the day came I met Pricey in town, and went up to the piercing shop, slightly anxious, but not too worried as I only live in a little town and the chances of him even knowing what I was talking about were (as I thought) slim to none. Once in there we had to wait for a girl to get her nose pierced and then Alex was ready for me. As I began to ask if he could do my hand web, he laughed and began to tell me how he just found out that it was now illegal to do them in the UK, even though he had done them and seen them done before and there had been no problems. So then for plan B, a vertical lobe. I had wanted this piercing before, but when I had gone in to get it, the artist could not do it because he didn't know what I was talking about. Since then the Parlour had been taken over and Alex was very much in control, and knew what he was doing!

Alex bean to get really excited when I mentioned it, because it was a piercing that he really enjoyed to do, yet hardly anybody asked for it. Ha asked me to choose some jewellery for my new mod, which would be placed just above my two normal lobe piercings and I chose a 14ga titanium barbell and followed him into the studio. This is where I saw my first big change, when I had gotten my belly button pierced, the room was really grubby and cramped, but now it was a lot cleaner and really quite spacious. This made me feel a little easier.

As usual, I began to get nervous about getting pierced, and so I asked Alex if it was going to hurt, he replied that he wasn't going to lie to me as he had told people before that it wouldn't and they came out of the room crying, and so yes it would hurt. This didn't really shock me, as it was going to be going through a large piece of cartilage, but it was not really what I wanted to hear. He started to mark up my ear and continued talking while he was doing so, generally about his pocketing on the nape of his neck, and how not many people appreciated it on our town (I happen to think they are very cool!) and then he showed me in a small mirror when he was going to place my piercing, and asked me if it was okay. He also said that he had to double check because it was such a big piercing and he needed me to be sure. Pricey then came into the room and held my hand, because by this point I was pretty scared (and with due cause!). Alex then cleaned my ear and prepared to pierce it. He told me to keep my head very still as he was doing it freehand and so if I moved he would miss and I would end up covered in blood. I prepared myself, and the initial piercing of the cartilage, which seemed to take forever to happen. It really hurt. I won't lie. Alex then left the tubing in my ear and got the jewellery ready to put in, by this point my ear was bleeding, and I could feel it swelling up and throbbing. He asked me to take a really deep breath in as he put some Vaseline on my ear and on my breath out, he would insert the jewellery. I did as he said and expected it to be much more painful then it actually was but I think the initial throbbing of it covered the actual pain. Once he had wiped away the blood, and cleaned my ear up, he asked if he could take some pictures for his studio, as it was the coolest piercing he had ever done! I looked in the mirror at my new mod, very happy but in a lot of pain, paid Alex and thanked him, and left the Parlour a ver y happy lady!

Once I got home I couldn't help but keep looking at it in the mirror, and as the night progressed iv got to admit it hurt a lot, and going to bed was a nightmare because of the way that I usually lie, and the covers on my bed kept irritating it.

Woke up this morning and its still swollen though not as much, and I caught it in the shower so it started bleeding again, but only a little bit. Overall I'm very happy with my mod. It's so original and all my friends and everyone who has seen it really love it. I recommend people who don't mind pain getting it done, although it could just be me being a wimp.
