I had just turned 18 and all ready had my ears pierced and a tattoo, needless to say I had "the itch." I wanted more piercings as I didn't have the money for ink, but as I had no idea what to get I put the thought on the back burner. I went up to Boulder a few days after I had resigned myself to no new mods when the friend I was up there to see drove us up to Scarred For Life and said "come on, its cheep piercing day." I inquired as to the nature of cheep piercing day and it was revealed that every Wednesday the shop runs a special where any piercing above the waist is only ten dollars. I was suspicious, but when she showed me their work in the form of the industrial in her ear, her tongue piercing, and her 6 gauge ears I was convinced that they were a quality shop. The piercings weren't in any way crooked, the placement was precise and there was not any abnormal scaring or anything else. She leaned over, gave me a hug and said "happy birthday."
At A Glance Author .white. Contact .white.@bme.anon When Three months ago Artist Billy The Kiidd Studio Scarred For Life Location Boulder Colorado I walked in all kinds of excited. I checked it out, and started to contemplate what to get poked. Facial piercings were out of the question because of my job. I had been considering a navel piercing but that was going to wait. Genital mods were not a possibility. That left my ear unless I was to do something much more unusual. I had noticed my ear looked awfully naked when I looked in the mirror, it was then I realized an industrial would do me fine. I informed the girl at the counter and I filled out the usual paperwork and then they took me into the back room. I was a little nervous at first but I had my friend there for moral support. I sat down and waited for Billy to get ready. After about five minutes of small talk with my friend, mostly to keep me calm he came in and I observed all of the instruments being torn out of packages, hands being washed and gloves being handled. After washing my ear and talking to me about roughly how I wanted it done He sized the jewelry to my ear and asked me what I thought. I was very happy with the placement so he marked the holes and told me to take a deep breathe and let it out on 3. At this point I was a little nervous (slight understatement) but before I knew it the first hole was done and I barely felt anything. There was no infamous pop and all it really did was sting. The second hole was far worse but it was still nothing terrible. What really hurt was when he was putting the jewelry in, I am not sure why but it caught me by surprise and hurt like hell. He gave me the aftercare instructions (saline solution, dial soap and LITHA) I payed him ten for the piercing and tipped him the same. My friend got her navel pierced and we were on our way. A soon as I stepped outside I was much more aware of the temperature and wind direction, it didn't hurt necessarily, but it was sore as hell.
Healing went relatively well, I got a nasty infection first off. It was bleeding and there was much puss involved but after religious saline solution it started to clear up. One day at work I was cleaning it and I pulled my ear to the side to clean the edge of the barbells and I heard a loud pop and there was slightly red puss draining down my ear. One would think that this would hurt but it felt much better after that. I cut down to one saline a day after the first month, and now I just clean it in the shower.Eventually the only problem was it getting caught in my hair or someone smacking me upside the head, which they learned very quickly to shy away from. It's fully healed now, three months later, I've had several other piercings, and I'm very much considering another one right below it. Finding jewelry for it is an adventure, I'm still yet to find any shops that have anything but normal silver barbells, but the search continues. It still flares up sometimes, which makes it hard to sleep, or it will start itching at the worst times, like at work, in a food service environment. Other than that it's my favorite piercing and I am very glad it was my first. I have gone back to Scarred For Life for every other piercing I've gotten and intend to go back there for all my other piercing needs. If you're ever in Boulder check them out. Thanks very much for reading ! .white.
