It started out as a simple vacation to Toronto during the summer. Pay, my boyfriend and I decided Toronto seemed to have an environment we both loved. Pat then reminded me that there were a lot of talented peircers in Toronto, and also it is was BME began. Since we both had been considering a new mods we decided to check into it. Pat had been considering his septum and I my rook. After looking through all the pages on this website of different pictures I decided on the rook. For me the rook is a perfect piercing, it is different, yet very easy to heal because of the placement. It is an area I don't tend to bump, or put a phone on plus it is cute....BONUS!

We were walking down the streets of Toronto looking at all the shops and came across Stainless Studios. After walking in and talking to the girl at the counter, we decided to plunge in a get pierced but we wanted to check out some more area shops. Stainless Studios just had a good vibe, everyone there was overly friendly and could answer any question we threw at them, always a comforting feeling. So the arrangements were made, and we were asked to come back in two hours because there were a few people before us.

After getting some dinner it was our turn. Pat and I filled out all the appropriate paper work and paid for the piercings ahead of time (because we were that last customers of the night). The one thing I found odd in Canada is no one asks for id, maybe its because the US asks for it all the time. Tom then came out and greeted us. His presence is very calming, especially since I was becoming a nervous wreck. That hot and dizzy feeling was already starting and I wasn't even in the room yet! Tom then led us back to his room, and I was to go first, which is a good thing because if Pat was going first I probably would have chickened out. The only complaint I have through the entire process is the long speech that Tom gave, not because it was boring, because he informed us of a lot, but because it caused my anxiety to go through the roof. I originally wanted a barbell in my rook, but Tom told me that he would rather I do it with a CBR because it is easier to heal and clean. So I ag reed, kind of disappointing but I could always change it later.

Tom walked me all the way through the procedure, and then we started. He marked my ear, and we finally decided on a good placement after 3 or 4 tries and negotiation. Tom informed me he was going to hand bend the needle so that it goes through more smoothly. He cleaned my ear and all that jazz, and then it was time to get poked. He was very gentle spoken because he obviously knew I was nervous, probably by the face Pat was making because I was already squeezing his hand. Push, the needle is going through. I could hear the two pops of the needle going through the cartilage. Although the piercing itself probably lasted about thirty seconds, I felt my whole body lift off the chair. Tom held my head down to the chair while everything else was in the air. All I could hear was Pat saying "Breath, you aren't breathing!" Then it was over, longest thirty seconds of my life. Tom put my 16g CBR in and handed me a mirror. I love it! I instantly feel in love. It was by far the most painf ul piercing I have, but worth every second of it.

It is now 3 months later, and my rook is healed perfect. I ended up changing my CBR to a barbell about a month ago. I find that the barbell is easier to clean and does not get caught on things as easy as the CBR did. For cleaning I used Cetaphil in the shower, and sea salt soaks and ear care solution for in betweens. Since your ears are kind of a high traffic area I made sure I cleaned it anytime it was touched by a phone or my hand. The only problem I have had during healing is a small keloid, that was easily solved my increased cleanings, and hot compresses with a wash cloth.

I would recommend this piercing for anyone that wants something different, but something that is accepted in the work force. I worked for a city department and even my boss thought it was cute! I love my rook, even though painful, totally worth it. I would also definitely go back to Tom at Stainless Studios next time I am in the Toronto area, he was very professionally and helpful.
