The names in this story have been changed to protect a piercest who I both respect and love as a person (not as a piercest). I am also not linking this to my IAM page because everyone who visits my page knows who pierced my secondary lobes as he is given credit for them in my mod gallery. For the purpose of anonymity I will be calling him "Tony" throughout this story. I am also leaving off my location, because everyone knows who the best studio in my city is.

I first got my second lobe piercing done with a gun at a Claire's Boutique when I was 12 years old. I wore them until I was seventeen, and then took them out because they were horribly uneven and I had grown to hate them. I would often look at the scars and think about putting earrings back in them, but I always knew that the non symmetry of them would drive me insane. Finally, when I was 26, I had them repierced.
I have a regular piercest who I go to when I want anything poked, but she was between jobs at the time. I kept harassing her to get a new job so that she could fix my lobes, but jobs are not always that easy to find. One day, about 6 months ago, we both got dumped within a week of each other. We were both stressed out and decided that we would go to get pierced to relieve a bit of our stress.
There is a piercing studio in our city that is very well known for it's fantastic piercers. It is also well known that it is the best in this city for piercings. Being that I am friends with those fantastic piercers, we decided to get our work done there. My regular piercer was going to get her Christina pierced and I was going to get my second lobes repierced. We called and found out when "Tony" was working next so that we could be sure to have an incredible piercer. We made an appointment and we were good to go.
We arrived at the shop two days later not feeling the least bit apprehensive. We chatted with my friends who work there and with "Tony" about how stupid our men were how wonderful their women were while filling out our paper work. My girl had brought jewelry for Tony to use. He inspected the pieces to make sure that they were in good shape and still smooth so that they would not cause any additional tearing and he approved them. He put them in the autoclave and we all went outside and smoked and chatted while the jewelry was cleaned. Spirits were high and we were ready to get poked.
We followed Tony into the piercing room and he asked which of us was going to go first. I volunteered. He cleaned and marked my ears and had me check the marks. They were even. So I gave him the go-ahead to pierce.
Like I mentioned earlier, all three sets of holes in my ears were originally pierced with a gun back in the early 90s and late 80s when I didn't know any better. So I really had no clue what to expect with having them done the right way this time. I did not know whether or not to expect a clamp or not, so I didn't even think twice when he started to pierce them freehand.
He opened the package that the first needle was in and he held on to my lobe with his left hand while pushing the needle through with his right. It hurt, yes. But it was about the amount of pain that I was expecting. He then pushed the needle through and pushed the CBR into place. He had a bit of difficulty getting the ball onto the CBR and I was very grateful when he was done. But then it was time for my other ear.
The process was exactly the same on my second ear. He had less trouble with the CBR and it hurt a little less, but all in all it was the same. He then cleaned my ears with Provon and q-tips. While I had never seen a piercest clean an ear with Provon immediately after piercing, I figured that everyone does something a little differently and didn't think much of it. He had me look in a little hand held mirror and I noticed a problem immediately. I am a bit shy when it comes to telling someone how to do a job that I don't know how to do, so it took me a minute to get the words out. "They are uneven!"
He looked at them for a second and said he didn't think that they were. I called my girl over to look. She looked quite surprised. "Yes, they are!" she said. We discussed this between the three of us for a good 5 minutes. He finally agreed that they might look uneven but that it was just the jewelry hanging differently on the different lobes. I looked again and agreed. It was that the jewelry was hanging different. The holes were in the same place, but the angle of the two holes was completely different. He assured me that if they did not settle evenly on their own within a few days, they would even out as I stretched them.
My girl did not get her Christina pierced that day. We went the next day to one of her friends to have it done. Both my girl (my piercest) and her friend (her piercest) assured me that my ears would never even out. But I am a stubborn little shit, so I kept them in just to see. And they did not. I still have uneven lobes. While I will admit that they are much more even that they were when pierced by a gun, they are still a little irritating.
I finally took them out yesterday. I do not know how long it will take them to close up so that I can have them pierced right. And it irritates me that I have to wait for them to close up when I paid to have them done and they should have been done right in the first place.
I know now that I should never accept anything on my body unless I think it is perfect because the imperfection will never quit bothering me. If you get a piercing and you are unhappy with it, take it out. Let it close. And then go somewhere else to have it redone.
The whole reason I was willing to "cheat" on my piercest and get a new set of holes by someone else is that I felt that they were "just lobes." I know better now. No piercing is "just" anything. Lobes are lobes. They are not hidden, like my sadhus are. They are next to your face in plain view and you see them every time you look in the mirror.
Everytime this piercing comes up in conversation, my piercest makes the comment "When you quit loving your job, find a new line of work." I am not sure if that is what happened. I am not sure what happened. All I know is that I will never return to Tony's shop for anything but buying jewelry again.
