As a child I never really wanted my ears pierced. But as I got older, it started to appeal more and more to me. When I was in about the 9th grade (about 14), I tried talking my parents into letting me get my ears pierced. They didn't like the idea too much. After a lot of talk and persuading, I finally talked them into getting my ear pierced. Unfortunately, (I hate to admit it), but it was with a gun. It stayed sore for a while, but the aggravating pain eventually went away. My friends Stephen and Chris had stretched their ears up to a 12 gauge. So I decided I would start to stretch.

After about 2 or 3 weeks, I went out and bought a 12 gauge captive bead ring to put. One night standing in a mirror I worked and worked to put it in. I tried Vaseline, water, and more Vaseline. After about 45 minutes, the ring finally went in. I finished out my night with a very swollen and slightly painful earlobe. After a couple of weeks, I decided I wanted to stretch just a little farther, and go to a 10 gauge Captive bead ring. This one I went to a piercing shop to get put in. It wasn't quite as painful and took nowhere near as long. I told myself that that was as far up as I was going.
Time went by and I noticed that bigger gauged earrings had better looking and more unique jewelry. You could also use other things such as pens for tunnels—but you had to have bigger ear holes than what I had. Well, at my school, no one thought anything about having holes that big (0 gauge) in their ears. It was even looked down on. Everyone though it was gross and no one could understand the point of it. I got to looking one day, and realized that the piercer had pierced my hole too low, so I decided to take my 10 gauge out and let my hole grow up.
I waited couple of weeks and went to a piercing shop and got both of my ears pierced to a 10 gauge. This, in my opinion, didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as getting my ears pierced with the gun. And it only stayed sore for a few hours. I let those heal and stayed at that size for a while. About a month after getting that done, I went out and got my labret pierced. Everyone had told me that this piercing hurt so bad, but I never felt the needle go through. After a couple more weeks, I went out and bought me some 8 gauge plugs, and a 14 gauge to 0 gauge taper. I decided I would start to take this stretching thing into my own hands. So, one night I decided to gauge up to my 8s. I began to actually like the size of my ear holes. I left my ears at this for a while. When it started to get old I began to think about gauging up to sixes or fours, but all the piercers I knew told me that it would rip my ears. I got to thinking about that, and finally decide to go on and s tretch my ears from 8 gauge to 0 gauge. That hurt like a bi*ch!!!!! But instead of crying like a little baby, I accepted the adrenaline rush and feeling of euphoria that came along with the pain, and instead of just liking my ears, I actually became proud of them. I left my ears at a 0 ga. For quite a while.
One day I finally decided that 0 ga. Had become to look small to me and I wanted to stretch my ears to 00. So sitting in a Taco Bell restaurant, I started pushing my 00 plugs through. That didn't do anything but make my ears sore. So I went to the bathroom, wet my ears and the plug and slipped it through. I decided to wait until the next morning to put my other plug in. the next morning I picked up a sharpie, and shoved it through my ear until it trickled blood. I pulled the marker out of my ear, and quickly shoved the plug in. This was big enough for now.
The junior/senior prom came up at my school. I decided to go to the piercing shop, and buy a new set of plugs, same size, just a different color. I wanted clear. The guy at the shop told me that the clear plugs were 00, but when I tried to put them in my ears, I learned that he had lied to me and gave me a set of 7/16'' plugs. So needless to say, I went on and stretched to a 7/16'' plug. Over the summer, I decided that that as big enough in the ears so I just got my tongue pierced. And that's what I stopped at. I am very proud of my ear holes and am not looking to gauge down any time soon.
Do not try to pierce yourself or stretch your ears at home. Let a professional do this
