Let me just say that I have been a lover of body modifications for as long as I can remember. Now coming from a family of super conservative people, it wasn't like I could get my mother's permission for my piercings. So things being as they were, I had to start doing them myself. I have a total of 7 so far, but I will be writing about my lobes right now.

I had first gotten a set of holes in my ears when I was a baby, as was tradition in my family. But over the years of not wearing the silly frilly earrings that they would buy for me, the holes closed up. So when I was thirteen, much to the joy of my family, I went to the mall to get my original holes reopened at one of those accessory stores that do piercings for free(you have to buy the jewelery). Thus began the bug that is still with me today.

Soon I became dissatisfied with my simple adornments and longed for more creative holes in my body. So I tried a DIY navel piercing (that's a different story), and after that rejected, I laid off on the bod mod for a bit. Then at fifteen, I did my own tongue (also a different story), and at sixteen my focus went back to my ears.

During Christmas break of my junior year, I was restless and very much bored. So I whipped out a large safety pin, an earring, and some rubbing alcohol. I locked myself in the bathroom and proceeded to wash my hands, the safety pin, and the stud with some antibacterial soap, then plopped the earing and backing into the cap full of rubbing alcohol. I then put some onto a cotton swab and rubbed down the safety pin. I eyed my right ear and pressed down a bit to make an indentation according to where I wanted to pierce. Satisfied, I positioned the tip of the pin over the mark and pressed down hard. I could hear the tiny pops as it made its way through my ear, stopping occasionally to regain my grip. The process took about 2 minutes when I realized that I couldn't press it in any further. I ran my finger along the back of my ear and could feel where the pin was tenting the skin. That last layer was being very, VERY difficult. So with a few more hearty pushes, I managed to shov e the pin through. I left it in there for a bit, then took the stud out of the rubbing alcohol, slid the pin out, and slid the earring in. It went in smoothly until it came to the other side. Then I had lost the hole. Being pretty pissed now, I jammed the earring through, and put the backing on. The whole process took about ten minutes, the majority being that pesky last layer of skin. I looked in the mirror at my new hole, satisfied for the moment. I decided to wait until the next day to repeat the process on my left ear, allowing me to sleep on at least one side of my head that night.

The next day came, and after my shower, I repeated the piercing process in my left ear. This time I left the pin in a little longer as I dressed, wiggling and fiddling with it so as not to lose the hole again. When I was finished, I slid the pin out, and slid the earring in, this time with no problem. I now had a new set of holes. And once again, I was satisfied...for the moment.

My newest lobe endeavor was a little over a week ago. I was home alone and once again bored out of my mind. So history repeated itself, and a pretty new hole was born. This one in my right ear. Now I take pretty good care of my piercings after I've done them. I'm not encouraging that you try to pierce yourself at home, but if you MUST, be sure to take the proper precautions! I wash mine daily and I make sure to get rid of any of the crusties that build up. Now ear lobes are very resilient body parts, so lobe piercings are pretty easy to deal with. Infections can occur, but they can be dealt with. At least in my ears, no two bodies react alike. Cleaning everything scrupulously is highly advised. There's no reason why you should skip over cleanliness. I will probably pierce another hole in my left ear to match my right soon, or perhaps just go on with the right. Well when I'm bored again, I'll find out. I will be turning eighteen soon, which will give me the opportunity to get some more visible piercings. I'm looking forward to getting my nostril, eyebrow, a second tongue, and an industrial done. Hopefully I'll have lots more stories and pictures to share with you all soon!! =)
