The following is my ear lobe piercing experience. Nothing special, but I thought I'd share it anyways.
At A Glance Author Anonymous When A week ago Location Ontario, Canada 5 days ago I got my second set of ear lobe piercings re-done. I took the first attempt out because they were uneven and didn't seem to want to heal. I admit, I was stupid and got them done with a gun before Christmas. I knew the dangers of gun piercings, but still opted to go for it because my studio had just gotten a stud gun (for some unknown reason, because stud guns are evil and they know that) and I knew it had never been used before. I was also cheap - I could get it done for $25 dollars including earrings and cleaning solution. So, I got them done and they were crooked. That's what you get when someone's never used a stud gun before. I wasn't too impressed, but decided that I'd live with the crookedness because it was the guy's first time. The tiny difference eventually annoyed me and I replaced the studs with rings, so see if I was able to hide the crookedness. No such luck. The crappy surgical silver rings made my ears irritated and I decided to retire the lobe pier cings after prom.
I allowed them to heal for 8 weeks and then I decided I needed to get my second set re-done before going off to University. I felt bare without them, and you could see the indents from the first experience.
So I went to my studio and had them look at my ears. They said the area was healed well enough, and that I could go ahead with the re-pierce. I filled out the medical sheet / waiver and hopped into the chair.
I had my navel and tragus pierced (plus the first set of lobes... gunned when I was 8) so I knew what was going to happen. My piercer washed his hands, used paper towels to shut the taps off and immediately put on gloves. The tray was already set up and everything was in packages. My lobes were carefully marked, avoiding all scar tissue. I looked in the mirror and noticed that the marks were closer to my first set than I would have liked, but decided that it was okay - it would have looked too far apart if we moved them to the opposite side of the retired lobes. Plus, I've now got room for a third set.
I did my left lobe first. The clamps actually hurt like a bitch. I've never had the clamps hurt before, but I believe it hurt because the scar tissue didn't like to be compressed. The needle was slid through and the CBR put in and closed. Then my right ear was done.
I hopped down from the chair and proceeded out to the waiting area to pay. That's when I got a shocker. I was told that my total came to $40 more than I was quoted. At first I thought he was kidding, but he was serious. My piercer asked if I was quoted something else and I informed him of what I was told. He said it was no problem and that's what I'd pay and that it'd be written down in the book as a rook piercing. I tried to refuse the discount, but he wouldn't let me. I ended up paying $60 (as opposed to $80) and tipped him $10. However, for the past 5 days I've felt like shit. I'm a worrier and crazy thoughts have been running through my head such as "What if they think I was lying about being quoted $50 + tax?" I was definately quoted that as was my friend who phoned about getting her lobes done. I also started thinking "What if my piercer gets in shit from the studio owner and fired". My family and friends have told me to stop worrying, that it wasn't a big deal to get a discount. I've been a worrier all my life though. Next time I'm in the area I plan on stopping by and throwing them another $30 as well as buying a pair of matching CBRs to put in my first set of lobe piercings... so that I match.
Worrying aside, I like my lobe piercings. The only downside is that I've had a couple sleepless nights. For the past 5 weeks I've gotten used to sleeping on my right side, as opposed to my left, because I've got a healing tragus piercing in my left ear. Now I can't even sleep on my right side. I'm sure I'll get used to sleeping only on my back, but if not the pain should subside in a little while, allowing me to sleep on my side again.
I was worried about healing to deal with 3 healing piercings, but it's really no big deal. They're all on my ear, so when it's no trouble to do the lobe sea salt soaks while I'm doing my tragus ones.
As soon as these piercings heal I'd like to get my rook pierced. Since there is room, I'll likely look into getting a third set of lobe piercings. After that I don't know what I'll get done. I don't want a genital, nipple, tongue, eyebrow (blah, blah, blah) piercing, so I don't know what I'll get. The only facial piercing I'd consider is a teensy nostril stud, but I've got bad allergies and don't know how well those two would go together.
All in all, my piercing experience was a good one. They're only lobe piercings, but I'm as happy afterwards as I was with all of my other piercings.
