DIY Lobe - Bad Idea!

When It just happened
The Idea

For a while now, the only piercings I've had have been my two stretched lobes and a DIY now-retired handweb, and random various surface piercings. I am by no means a professional piercer - just a stupid 15-year-old kid, who experiments with her body way too much and doesn't think of the consequences. I've always loved the look of an ear with many various piercings, and I decided that I would self-pierce my lobes again, about a centimeter atop the current one.

Disclaimer

I repeat - I'm a stupid kid! Please don't attempt any of the following - it's pointless. Why not just spend a few bucks at a good piercing place and be ensured of quality, or would you rather a hideous and painful infection of your own doing? At least it's fun to be able to blame someone else if an infection does happen...

Thoughts Before

Now the funny thing is, I was watching tv when my mind wandered off to piercing something or the other, and I decided to pierce my lobes a second time myself, just because I was bored. That's quite pathetic, but still - I wasn't exactly thinking much about the risks. I was just on that adrenaline rush...

My Supplies

I really, really wish I could say sanitary, new hypothermic 16g needles, gloves, autoclave, etc... but i'll stick to the truth. A safety pin cleaned in... no, not even alcohol. I cleaned it up in hot water. I didn't think about ice or any other such thing. Just a stupid safety pin. And yes, I am quite embarrassed.

The Experience

The thought of actually marking the holes with a pen or something didn't come to mind till oh - about 3 minutes while the second hole was half-way through being made... But anyways, I sat in front of my mirror in the bathroom, and started washing my ears with extremely hot water, so as to sanitize them... I did the same with the safety-pin, than slowly started pushing it through the hole. It made a 'crunch' sound, and started to bleed a whole lot while the pin was in and the pain was definately uncomfortable but it didn't annoy me - I have a very high tolerance for pain. I took the needle out and attempted to slip my earring in but it wouldn't go through - I think the gauge was much larger. So I did what any other impatient, reckless idiot would do - I forced it through... Went through, bled like a mofo and finally - I had it pierced. I waited two hours before doing the second one and did it in the same way - except this one was much easier for some reason.

The Outcome

It's been about two days. Sleeping is more or less uncomfortable on my sides but that's to be expected. I'm a fidgeter and I rotate the piercing a whole lot during the day. Today I have a feeling there might be a risk of infection but I'm not too sure - so I just washed the entire deal in about 1/10th solution of Dettol/water. It's a little numbing, not too painful but I am majorly pissed about something.. the placement.

Just in case that doesn't work, the link is http://www.geocities.com/dcreeker2000/diy.txt

You can see as illustrated by the crappy webcam above, 1 and 2 differ because there is much more space between the first hole and the second in 1, as opposed to 2. You have no idea how frustrating this is for me. Pictures 3 and 4 illustrate this a little better.

My final thoughts

Let's see the lovely, lovely things that have happened in a 2 day period...
1) I pierced it with a safety pin.
2) No sanitation whatsoever.
3) No pre-judged placement.
4) Maybe infected.

This - or maybe pay a few dollars at the piercing place to ensure it's done with good conditions?
So now tell me... after all this, would you still want a DIY piercing?
I'm not going to take it out because due to my skin type - I scar really easily and I honestly would rather I have this odd placement as opposed to a thick, visible scar, but regardless. For example - if it gets infected, I will have to take it out - and this morning, it was showing signs of infection though not as severe yet. I'll wait for a day or two to see how things progress but I hope to anything it turns out alright.
One thing I know for sure - I am never piercing myself again. Too much of a risk, and although I know at my age (15), I can't get piercings without parental consent and my parents are extremely strict (I have ass-length hair... hence them not noticing the piercing)... I would rather wait than risk infection or scarring.

Don't do what I did - the least you can do is have sanitized conditions and mark out where you want the hole...
Thank you for your time. I'm off to clean this thing up...
