Ok, I have to say that I know the risks of self-piercing; the horrible infections you can get, the inadequate equipment etc. I also must say that that did not stop me in the least, I've always been called stubborn.
At A Glance Author Chloe When A week ago Artist me (im so proud) Studio my bathroom Location DC When I was three years old I got my first ear piercing gunned in at Claire's. Of course I don't remember this, but I do remember my sense of pride being the only one in my pre-k class with decorated lobes. When I was 11 I decided that I desperately wanted second holes, my mom didn't say yes but she didn't say no. After a couple months she agreed, if I paid for it. Of course, I was unbelievably broke so getting them gunned in at the mall was not going to work. So I had the amazing idea of doing them myself. Much to my surprise my mom agreed right away. I was thrilled.
After doing this piercing (which didn't hurt at all) I realized that I had pierced it at an angle, making it darn near impossible to switch earrings. So after making $20 from babysitting my mom took me to the mall to get me pierced. For about a month I was happy with my new piercing. But gradually more and more girls came to school with double piercing. I wanted to be different then everyone else at my preppy school. A year later I decided it was time for my third hole.
So there I am, broke like you wouldn't believe and desperately wanting more metal through my flesh. I once again decided on the DIY route. Once again my dear mother agreed. All I had to do was find my old piercing earrings from when I got my poor ears gunned. After searching for quite a few days I was finally able to locate them, much to my relief.
The morning of my piercing I called over my friend who very much wanted to witness this "freak show." Now I do feel a little wimpy about this part, but I must admit that I did numb my ear for a couple of minutes. Ok stop laughing at me. So after my ear was all numbed (which hurt like 10 times more than the actual piercing) I marked the spot with a sharpie.
By this time I was extremely excited, I love new holes! I held my ear with one hand, put the earring up to the mark, closed my eyes and jammed it through. I felt the slightest pinch and a small crunch, which sounded kind of cool. I found the back and put it on, my friend was very impressed with my "bravery."
My ear was slightly red for about half an hour and there was slight throbbing for about 10 minutes, no big deal. After I was all pierced I realized I had nothing to clean it with so I ran over to my neighbors to grab some of that Ear Care Solution they give you at Claire's.
About three days after my piercing, I decided that the earring back was jammed on too far so I was going to pull it a little farther back. I grabbed both the earring and the back and began to tug. Unfortunately I pulled too hard and ripped the earring clean out, that didn't feel to good. My ear was throbbing and very bloody; my sister was freaking out and being annoying by this point. So after I cleaned my ear with the solution, I found one of my moms gold earrings to put in. It took me nearly 20 minutes to get the earring in. I had pierced weirdly so I had to get the earring in a strange position, which was very confusing. After shoving it through a layer of skin, I was finally able to get it in, thank goodness!
Ok, I really haven't been taking very good care of my ear and it is actually quite infected. Whenever I bump it there is pretty bad pain, but nothing I can't handle. If you are going to pierce yourself, only do you ears and PLEASE be careful! Also, don't be stupid like me and never clean it, it just looks all red and infected, not pretty. My mom is really annoyed at me for not taking good care of it. All of my friends think I'm crazy and don't believe I actually peered it myself. Luckily I have a witness! My sister is begging my mom to let her do her second hole, to no avail. Well she is only 7...
After this little experiment I am longing for new holes and am begging my mom to take me to get my tongue pierced. But that will be a different story on a different day...:)
