Quite an experience really, piercing yourself, and I can safely say, it is quite enjoyable! I'd also like to note that I'm not just doing this because I'm not allowed to get pierced, I am, I did it for my own personal reasons, and to see if I was capable of doing it myself.

At the time I had the intention of piercing something on my self, I want various things done, but I do not trust myself to do most of them, so I thought:
'Hmmm, ear lobe, no major veins, relatively soft flesh, seems simple enough'
And so, my mind was set on piercing my ear lobe, I just had to wonder if I would have the courage to do it myself.
One-Week Later-
This morning I wake up early, as usual, by which time the post women hasn't usually come, so I just doze off again. I woke up again about half an hour later, and wondered down stairs to see if any post had come for me, because at the moment I'm waiting for various things to arrive. So anyway, I wonder over to the front door, and I see, partially hidden below another envelope, a grey padded envelope. Now from experience, all body jewellery comes in these envelopes, so as soon as I had seen it I knew what it was.
Upstairs, with my envelope in hand I went about un wrapping it all. I opened it up to find my two shiny blue titanium plugs for my ears, and a blue titanium ring, which I would wear through one of the plugs, but most of all, my two cannula needles for my piercing. The reason for having two is partly because they are so cheap it would come to an even £3 for both ( I think) but also because if in the future, I would want to pierce something again, I would already have a needle ready. But for the moment I just put in the two plugs in my other set of holes, along with the ring in the left tunnel.Over the next two hours I built up the courage to do it.
When I had finally felt ready to do it, I grabbed an un-used labret, and cleaned it up with some anti bacterial soap, and although I know this wont make it sterile, it had never been worn before so I wasn't to worried about catching anything horrific from it. I cleaned up my ear with some alcoholic swabs I had in the medicine cabinet, and washed my hands. Finally I opened the needle from its sterile wrapper. Before attempting to pierce myself, I studied the needle first, seeing as I had never done it before I wanted to check I understood what would happen. Over the needle is a plastic guess, which I imagine is to stop people accidentally jabbing themselves on the needle. I removed this, and checked on the needle how the plastic sheath on the needle would be removed, which I discovered to be relatively simple, when I had pierced myself all I would have to do it hold the sheath while removing the needle, which seemed simple enough.
The Piercing:
I was all up to using some ice to numb the area, but decided if I was going to pierce myself for the experience, and seeing if I could do this to myself, then the ice would be pointless, so I went without. I must also mention I am doing this piercing freehand.
I lined the needle up on the spot of my ear that I wanted pierced, the point where cartilage meets the edge of the lobe I have a small dimple, and this is where I would be piercing through. I pushed gently on the needle; I had decided I would do this slowly, as I was not in a mood to cause myself a sharp pain in my ear. Pushing the needle through did still hurt, but was much less painful than my other lobe piercings, which were done professionally, and the needle was pushed through quickly, causing a much sharper, shorter pain. I also had never realised just how sharp piercing needles, I had realised they were sharp, but not like this. At first I thought I may only just be poking the outer layer of skin, causing some pain, until the needle just slid smoothly out the other side, I hadn't felt it go in or out! I then cut the tighter end piece off of the plastic sheath (after removing the needle of course) and then had the problem of getting the jewellery into the sheath to th en be pushed through with the sheath, putting the jewellery into my new hole. This most the most awkward moment of the whole experience. After finally getting the labret post into the sheath, I pushed it all out back through the hole, putting the jewellery into place. I removed the sheath, and screwed the ball on tight. And I was done!If anyone is going to pierce themselves I suggest you look into it first, get all the proper equipment you need, and don't just do it one day because you're bored with a safety pin. Of course the best option is to always to go to a piercer, but if you're sensible, and know what you are doing, then have fun experimenting!
