About a year ago I decided I wanted to have another piercing done, I'd had my navel done about five months before that and it had given me the piercing bug! I originally wanted an industrial, but decided against it as I would have probably been sacked! I'd noticed a girl at college had her Tragus pierced, I thought it looked really cool and unusual. I checked out the gallery on BME, and was considering having a vertical tragus but after plenty of browsing I finally opted to have it done normally. My mum wasn't too keen on the idea, she wanted to know everything cos she was positive I'd get loads of ear infections and stuff, so after reassuring her I'd be fine and I could look after myself I was ready!

So that weekend I took myself down to my piercing studio. (The woman that did it had had hers done twice before) she talked me through it and told me about the cleaning procedure etc) And said it was a fairly easy piercing to keep clean as long as there was enough movement in the bar to be able to get behind it to clean it. she handed me the forms, and her assistant helped me pick out the jewellery I wanted. I choose a small silver bar with a pink jewel it looked really cute! I also got a plain ball for it too. I took a seat because the studio was really busy. I was really nervous, because although I love the finished look of piercings, I not a big pain person!! ( I nearly chucked when I had my belly button done!)

After what seemed like a lifetime of sweaty palms it was my turn! She shouted me to come through and I went in, She asked me which ear I would like it done in and I said left. As soon as I sat down I began to get really panicky and she told me to breath deeply I watched her in the mirror as she cleaned my ear and lined up all the equipment she needed, I saw the needle and began to ramble on about anything! I must have sounded stupid! She marked my ear and asked me if it looked ok, I said yes and we were ready to go!! She put the clamps, which weren't too comfortable! And told me to count to three, I got to two and she pushed the needle through, I heard a huge POP! in my ear, which was gross! It sounded like something out of a cartoon! It was an uncomfortable kind of pain, my ear was throbbing and I was really hot and sweaty. She slid the jewellery in and I was ready to go! I checked out my ear in the mirror it looked so cool, I paid and left. I was on a real high walking dow n the road and kept checking it out in shop window! How sad! I couldn't wait to get home and show my boyfriend who I had a bet on with (He thought I would have chickened out!) he loved it and so did my mum, which was cool.

My ear was throbbing constantly! It didn't bleed, but it looked really bruised and over the next couple of days it swelled to double the size and got loads of crusties on it! I cleaned it twice a day with salt water and rotated it, but being a student and getting seriously bored in lectures it wasn't long before I was playing with it all the time. Not a good idea!! It formed a lump on the back, which was really painful and sore, I was beginning to have second thoughts! I started bathing it with salt water four times a day, and after about a week it finally began to settle down. After a couple of weeks it was fine and the swelling had gone down loads, The only bad thing about it was the fact that I couldn't sleep on my left side for a good two weeks after having it done, and I kept forgetting about it and banging it with the phone which hurt like a bitch!! But anyone wanting to get it done, just one thing, don't play with it! I'd say go for it, It's a cute piercing and its un usual without going over the top. I've got to admit I do play with it sometimes but try not to too much! I love my Tragus and have had no problems with it whatsoever for nearly a year, I've since changed my bar to a ring, and am now contemplating getting my tongue done. I can't wait to add more to my collection!! P.S Keep up the good work BME your site is wicked, and even though its banned at college (which we are trying to change by the way) I still go on it loads!
