I've been coming to BME for a few years now, just browsing and always learning. This is the best body modification site on the net. Definatley. Well, anyway, back to my industrial experience.
At A Glance Author Nicki Contact nicki_amato@ameritech.net When Three months ago Studio Blue Skys Location Blue Island, IL. I was looking through BME and discussing with my mother that I wanted a new piercing. I usually know what I want right away but this time I wanted to think it over alittle further. My mom and I sat at the computer and I showed her dozens of piercings and I asked her opinion. I looked at the industrials and told her that I've always wanted one. She said, "well then, thats what you should get". I asked her if she thought it would look right on me and she said of course, etc. Although my mind was leaning towards the monroe piercing I decided to go with the industrial this time and I will most definately get a small (perhaps 16g. monroe) for my next piercing.
I was really anxious to get my new piercing because it had been a few months since I had something done. My last piercing was my navel, which was a nice experience aswell. My mom told me that she didn't want to take me to get my industrial done because she can't handle seeing stuff like that, shes a funny lady. So, I asked my dad one day when he picked me up from school. He loves piercings and tattoos and he emmediately thought it was a great idea.
He took me back to my grandma's and we phoned a dozen places asking for prices, etc. We found a place with a reasonable price and we decided to head there. When I got to the place I explained to the guys that I wanted my industrial pierced. He said, no problem and he told me he wasn't sure on which barbells he had left so he would have to measure my ear first. He sat me down in the dentist-like chair and told me to relax while he cleaned off my ear with some cleaning stuff.
He left me for a few minutes and went to go talk to my dad and he had my dad sign some papers. I was really excited to be getting this done, I couldn't wait to have that shiny barbell going through my ear! I tried to watch as much as I could but it was kind of difficult from where I was sitting. There was a mirror in front of me so it made things alittle better.
He took his pen and marked the spots on my ear. He told me to just take deep breaths. He then clamped my ear and poked my upper ear with the needle.. then he told me to breathe again deeply and exhale and he punctured the other hole. He then slid the barbell through and he tightened the ball. My ear was red and had a few drops of blood but it looked gorgeous. It didn't even her that much. It was funny because I had atleast 5 people in the studio watching me get pierced and I heard "wow, she didn't even flinch". My dad was proud, haha.
We then paid the piercer 40$ and headed home. I was very suprised that they only charged 40$ for this piercing. Everywhere I have questioned before said 80$ because it is two holes. I think 40$ is a fair price considering you are only using one piece of jewelry not two. I ran home and showed my mom and all my friends, they all thought it looked great on me. I think this piercing looks good on me aswell. The after-care process is quite horrible and painfull. If you're not ready to commit to taking care of your industrial, don't bother getting one because they need tons of care.
Its been about 3 months now and my industrial is still sore and it grew some keloids. I thought it would be better to take out the barbell and put 14g. CBRs in until it is fully healed. The keloids did start going away, so I know its getting better already. I love my industrial and i'm glad I got it. I'm not sure how much longer i'm going to wait until I put the barbell back through. I just bought a new one, its longer.. 1 inch and a half. I think it will look very nice with alonger barbell. I was chatting with my friend and he told me to put crushed asprin on the keloids and that would shrink them, I've only tried it once and it made mine feel better already. I think that industrials are very painful piercings in my experience. Its not so much the piercing part, no not at all. Its the after-care part. I find mine still hard to sleep on sometimes. My friend told me that this will only continue a month or two more. Woo. If you have any questions please e-mail me at nicki_amat o@ameritech.net
