I had been thinking of getting this piercing for along time. I liked the look of them and felt my other ear needed something to balance out the industrial on the other side. I didn't like being uneven.
At A Glance Author *mandy* Contact *mandy*@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Curtis Studio Lucky Devil Location Barrie Ontario I was waiting one more month to get my septum done and I needed something to fill in the gap. I had seen rook piercings before and really liked them but everyone I had talked to told me they were really painful. my friend said she had to lie down because she almost fainted when she got hers done. I was trying to decide between a rook and an orbital. I had decided against the orbital because a piercer told me they were kind of hard to line up, and sometimes they could get messy. I made up my mind and wanted the rook. Putting those stories behind me, i decided to do it. I had already got my industrial done and it didn't hurt that much so i went ahead. I was in the studio the week before with my friend to get her inner conch done and had talked to curtis about my rook then. He told me it wouldn't hurt that much but it would make me go "oh!". He also told me I should get my septum done and maybe a side lipring. He was really dishing out the advice that day. When we left I told him I would be back next monday to get the rook done.
I walked into the studio with my friend on monday and started to talk to Curtis. He was pretty cool and said it would fit nicely in my ear. His girlfriend was there and I was talking to her and then after awhile, moved to the back. She asked if she could come back and I said it was all right, so we all moved back.
Once back there, curtis did all the usual stuff: cleaned my ear, showed me the earring and told me that it was a 16 gauge in case I wanted to change the jewelry. He marked my ear, asked if it looked good and then explained that he had to bend the needle a bit so it wouldn't hit any other part of my ear. He got me to breathe in and out a couple of times (as usual) and told me on the next breath it was going in. I felt the normal amount of pain and heard the crunch. He stopped and I figured it was over. One swift movement and that was it, I was wrong. He regriped the needle and pushed again. That hurt. I felt more pain and heard another crunch. I asked if it was through yet and he said we would have to do it again. He took the needle out and started to clean the blood with a q-tip. Apparently I was bleeding so much he had to go and get the paper towels. We had to wait for the bleeding to stop so we talked and joked around that I needed to eat a steak because I didnt e at meat that was the reason I was bleeding so much (which was probably true.) After about fifteen minutes I stopped bleeding and was ready to try again. Curtis got us all to be quiet and started me breathing again. He promised me a lollipop afterwards..
This time it went through with one push, and that was it.
It was extremly painful, but that was only because of the multiple times it was pushed through. I lied there awhile because we were worried i would faint because of the loss of blood and all the pain. nope. I was fine. If it had gone through the first time I dont think it would have been that bad. It is not hard to clean at all, but is really sore to sleep on (I was used to that with industrial by now) My ear bruised but again I think that was because of the multiple times it was pushed through. It wasnt Curtis' fault, and I am not blaming him. He told me I had thick skin....ha ha
What should have taken only about ten minutes ended up taking 45, but I really love it and have had alot of compliments on it. I wouldnt recommend this piercing for someone if its their first time getting a piercing, because it is painful, but a really great piercing none the less. I havent had any infections, which is really good, and after about two months am still cleaning it twice a day. I have had some comments made on it by others that think it is gross, but I really like and iI am the one that has to live with it.
