I called up to obscurites on Friday afternoon and spoke to Shan. I told him I was having this thought going about getting transverse lobes and following them up with orbitals around the transverse lobes (which I also want pierced so I can switch the barbells with cbrs on occasion) when the lobes healed. I thought it sounded like a pretty stellar idea and figured I would discuss it over the phone to see if it sounded plausable before showing up. As I seemed to be getting the response that it sounded like a pretty nifty idea, I told him I was coming by a little later in the evening. I show up about 6 pm. Say my hellos to Shan and Delaney. There was someone there before me waiting for lobe stretching. Before starting with him, Delaney takes the time to hear of my spectacular 3D lobe plan. He seems to find the idea really exciting, tells Shan that he isn't sure what size barbell to use yet, but he will get that figured out and goes to start the stretching on the other gu y who was there before me. Next thing I know, Delaney comes running back out to measure my lobes, decides on the barbell length (7/8 inch I believe and at 14 gauge). So I sit around and wait some more, browse through some magazines, chat with everyone else there, etc. until it is my turn.

After the other guy's work is finished and my jewelry is autoclaved, the fun begins. As I seem to have been showing up at Obscurities lately about every two weeks for new piercings, Delaney says to me "you just can't seem to stay away from here, can you." I answer, "not at the moment, I keep having too many ideas right now" and start describing a handful of them. Delaney marks my lobes, reconsiders placement, removes marks, marks again, I check out placement, visualize the finished product, grin widely, lay down and prepare for the needle. Delaney explains the procedure, warns me that he is going to have to pierce the lobes very slowly so I don't end up with the needle exiting somewhere we don't want it (I get interesting images in my head at that thought and start laughing and joking about where the exit puncture could be if it ends up in the wrong place), then he asks if I'm ready, I say "yep", he says it is probably going to feel very weird and he begins. I found th e sensation pretty interesting to say the least. It was kind of like a burning, tingling feeling that spread upwards from my lobe through the rest of the ear. After the first ear was done, he asks if I had my lobes pierced previously. I answered yes, but hadn't worn anything in those holes in years. He comments on noticing when the needle went through the scar tissue. I giggled and said "so that's what that was. It almost felt like I got stuck with the needle again half way through the lobe."

Then he asks if I'm ready for the second ear. I say "yup" and he repeats the procedure on the left ear. More burning tingling sensation in the left side of my head and then its done. I check out my new and improved lobe adornments in the mirror, approve of the work and toss a tip in the jar. Delaney asks if I'll come back in a month to get photos taken. I say of course - (will have to see if I can coordinate uploading them to BME...).

I think he was really proud of his work too, because instead of staying in the studio to clean up right away, he follows me back to the front and is hollering for Shan to take a look at my lobes and excitedly talking about my future orbitals and vertical surface piercings in front of the tragus that I'm planning on returning for. Shan repeats some of what I said from my earlier phone call and asks how it felt getting the transverse lobes pierced. Delaney starts raving on how I always sit really well for the piercings (as I've been there a few times before for other stuff). I ask if I can have one of their stickers. Shan tells me to take all of them. That kind of surprised me until he tells me he has a whole box of them. I grab 3 stickers, say bye and promise to be back for pics and the next step of my ear projects and then head from Dallas to Fort Worth to catch the Butthole Surfers concert, reveling in the extremely interesting sensations in my lobes from my new pierc ings through the entire show!!!!
