This is the story of my left earlobe and how it came to have an 18mm hole in it. Firstly I should say that I developed an interest in piercings a couple of years ago. However, it wasn't until about a year ago that I started to consider stretching my ears. I'd seen quite a few people with large gauge ears around London but it wasn't until I discovered good old BME that I really began to see the true beauty of stretched ears. My girlfriend had begun to stretch out her 13 year old gunned ear lobes, and I decided it was time I began my ear stretching voyage.

Everything, however was not okay for my ear. A combination of a badly positioned hole and me stretching far too quickly (its just sooo hard to resist. Sorry qod staff!) had left me with a disturbingly thin bit of skin underneath the hole. To be fair it wasnt too bad but I knew it was not going to get any better so I figured now was the time to act.
As I now live in London (as opposed to small town existence) I was able to find an excellent piercing studio who could deal with this sort of stuff. I went in for a chat about my options with the piercer. I was told that scalpelling, although it would not thicken up my lobe, would help me achieve larger ears without putting any more strain on my thinning lobe. He told me that the 11mm hole could be scalpelled up to 16 or 18mm. I must admit I hadnt realised that it could create such a dramatic change. He showed a few pictures of other ears he had scalpelled, which made me much more eager and confident as the pictures looked very well done and the resulting large plug looked great.
A couple of days later and I find myself in the studio preparing to be scalpelled. After signing all the forms I was lead out to the piercing booth. I'd never been pierced here before and the cleanliness and professionalism was great. We took a few pictures of my ear with and without my 11mm plug in. The piercer then shone a torch to check for veins. I then stood up to ensure that the mark for the cut would be straight. As I lay down for the procedure I was a little nervous as I was venturing into the unknown for me. I was taken through a quick breathing exercise to help me calm down and then the first cut was made. The pain was not nearly as bad as I had expected, really only a little more painful than a regular piercing. After the first cut a 16mm plug was inserted. It was then decided that 18mm would probably fit, so another smaller cut was made and the 18mm plug squeezed in. I didnt bleed very much at all, much to my suprise.
I went for a coffee round the corner with my ear throbbing like mad. However by the time I went back to shop after about 45 minutes all the pain had subsided. The piercer looked again at my ear, gave it the all clear and I tootled off home with a huge smile on my face.
Its only been two days since it happened but the ear looks wonderful. There is a little swelling, although not as much as I had expected, and a few drops of blood in the morning. Regular sea salt soaks seem to be doind it a world of good. I really can't recommend scalpelling enough, especially if your ears are thinning a bit. Even if they arent thinning, scalpelling positions the hole nice and tight to the cartiledge above, which, in my opinion, makes the lobe look a whole lot nicer. No-one should worry about the pain because it isn't nearly as bad as you probably expect. The only down side is the price, but hey it would cost more to slowly stretch 7mm anyway what with tapers and loads of new jewellery. As soon as this lobe is comfortable enough to sleep on I'll definitely be getting the other one done. I hope my story is of use to someone, thanks for listening.
I'd also like to say that my piercer was amazing. Very proffesional and a great calming influence. I haven't included any of their details here as I think the process is actually illegal in England so I doubt they'd appreciate me blarring their name out all over the place.
Oh I need seven more words, hey!
