Well to start things off, I've been interested in piercings ever since I was in the seventh grade. I currently have my ears pierced 9 times along with my septum. One night I was surfing BME and came across the vertical tragus. I though it was absolutely beautiful, not to mention uncommon. I don't let anyone pierce me because it makes it more personal doing it myself and overall it means more to me, not because I'm too cheap to get it done professionally. I showed my dad that I was going to pierce that tonight. He didn't believe me one bit. Out of all of my piercing I've ever done none were ever my ears. Don't get me wrong, I've tried to pierce my ears at least a million times, including my lobes, but I always chickened out. What the hell was wrong with me? I could stab the webbing under my tongue and stick a needle up my nose with ease, but I could never bring up the courage to pierce my own ear! I didn't think that I would go through with it. I knew I was going to chicken out. But still I got out all of my supplies; a 14 gauge needle, 14 gauge straight barbell, some alcohol pads and lastly a pair of gloves. First I went downstairs and pulled my hair back so it wouldn't get in the way, then I washed off my hands really well and went up to my room again. I wiped off my ear with the alcohol wipe and put on my gloves. I tried to open up the package my piercing needle was in but my gloves were too slippery and when I finally got it open the needle flew out and hit the floor. I wasn't about to jab a needle that was on my floor through my ear so I got a new one and this time opened it slowly.

I went back and forth for about a half hour. Both of those nubs on my ears had little marks all over them. I was on my fifth or so rotation when I got to my right ear. I pushed and pushed with all of my might and it broke the first layer of flesh. I actually got somewhere! I was so proud of myself. Then I started to shake. I kept on pushing but I got nowhere. I hated this part. It happens every time I pierce my self. When I get to a certain point, I try to push really hard to get it over with but when I strain my arm and think I'm pushing as hard as I can it doesn't move a budge. Finally, I see a very little point from the needle poking through! Ten minutes later I get it all the way through. My body started to shake and then the endorphins kick in. I laid on my bed for a couple of minutes to calm my self down. After that I ran downstairs to show my dad my new addition. I didn't put the jewelry in yet because I was afraid that I would loose the hole. I convinced my dad to help me put my barbell in. I went upstairs to get it and when I come down he refuses to help me! Oh well, I don't need his help, I just shoved a needle through my ear. I can put it in all by myself. I got the barbell in with ease surprisingly.
Let me remind you, I DON'T recommend that you pierce your self. But if you absolutely have to, make sure everything is sterile and you know what your doing. Look things up, do some research and read experiences on BME.. that's why its here.
I loved this piercing. I showed it off to everyone at school. All I had to do was put my hair behind my ear and a second later I'd hear a gasp followed by a "What the hell did you do to your ear?!" A lot of people liked it but there was always those few people who just had to say a mean remark to attempt to piss me off. I took it out a few weeks later because it was starting to reject from all of the people running up to me during school and pulling on it hard. It wasn't only them, it constantly got caught on my hair and my pillow. I kept it in long enough to have a scar there to remind me of when I did my biggest accomplishment.
