This is the second time I write an experience for BME.

So, I'm in love with piercings for over 5 years now. I always tried to poke myself somehow, I think it enhances the way I look in some level, and also that it gives a very good kick after I have my piercings done! I have my navel done twice, my tongue and my helix. I have had both my nipples, nostril and labret, but not anymore.

I find it incredible what happens to me, like, whenever one piercing starts to heal, I feel it is time to have something poked again. I don't know, I guess I might be addicted to the healing process! hehe

But, I'm here to tell about my helix experience.

I was always fan of different piercings, not ears. I always thought they were too mainstream! Even the cartilage ones. But then I came across BME and discovered some other types of ear cartilage piercings, such as tragus, rook, snug and the Helix itself.

I can admit I fell in love for the rook. I still want to get that done someday. But I decided to have my helix this time.

It was gonna be my first ever ear piercing! I was excited!!

I was gonna go to a concert here in my city, called "Planeta Atlântida", and I knew there was gonna be a lot of young people claiming that they are all the coolest human beings alive just because they have some visual piercings, and since I have only non-visual ones, I decided to have my helix done. I have never seen anyone in my city with this piercing.

I went to Anjo Tattoo and Body Piercing with my friend Christiane that wanted to have her nostril re-done. It is the same place where I got my tongue and my tattoo done.

He is great! He makes me feel very calm and very confident on what he is doing.

I said I wanted a helix. Of course, here in Brazil we don't use the same names as in the US, we don't even use the name helix for the piercing, and I'm in a bit introducing my piercer to the terms I find on BME! :)

I chose the jewelry, a 16 ga CBR. Nothing too different.

But first went my friend Christiane, she was doing her nostril for the second time if I'm not mistaken, and poor she, all the time she lets a tear fall from her eyes!

Then it was my turn.

I set on the chair, I didn't see the needing for laying down on it. While we talked about the spot I wanted and while we marked it his assistent, that is his girlfriend, was sterilizing the tools he was gonna use and showing me the needle he was gonna pierce me.

He marked the spot and asked me if it was alright, and I said no, I wanted a little further on my ear. He said it was a thicker part of cartilage and that would hurt more, but I didn't care, I wanted that spot.

When he did the clamping I don't know why but my heart started pounding. And then he said to me that he was gonna push it on the count of three, and he said: "three" and pushed it (he always tricks me like that!). It didn't hurt at all! I didn't even hear the so famous crunch noise!! He then put the 16 ga CBR in.

It was so fast that I didn't even had the time to think about it. I didn't feel lightheaded or anything.

He gave me the aftercare instructions and told me to use a band aid in the first nights of sleep, so that would help and not ache too much at night.

I greeted him telling that I was already thinking on what I was gonna do next... maybe my rook, and he was excited with the idea, just like me!

Christiane and I went straight to the concert after the piercing, and it didn't bothered me at all! I know I shouldn't have done that, but that was my choice.

Just the first couple of weeks were really a bitch! I couldn't sleep on my left side, it hurt. I did some salt soaking and used antibacterial soap while in the shower, that seemed to help.

It looked great. It's been almost a year now. The healing went fine, but the problem was that I couldn't let the jewelry in all the time, because of work, so I took a chance and took it out during the day and put it back at night. It took longer to heal and it bothered more, much more, I know, but that was the only way I could keep my lovely helix!
