IAM server outage info... Visit Mini-IAM!The main BMEZINE.COM server is running fine and normal member and non-member usage of BME is not affected by this downtime. Only the "live" functions of the site are affected. Thus this affects the IAM server, QOD, the encyclopedia, and other automated functions of BME. Updates are being posted as they occur.

IAM is back online!
Date: Wed, Nov 10 2004, 1:37 PM
To save us from having to wait until tomorrow, Rachel/MiL0 has volunteered to personally fly the server from Minneapolis to Fremont. Thanks to her extraordinary effort, things should be back online tonight after all. Thank you!!!

OK, the server has both a new power supply and a new motherboard, and everything appears to be fine. However, to my immense dismay (and yours too, I'm sure) the diagnostic isn't going to be complete before tonight's shipping deadline so it will travel from Minnesota to California tomorrow morning, getting it there a day late.
I'm very, very, very sorry to have to push back the online date until Thursday. If there was anything I could do to expedite this I would. I'll repeat that of course accounts will be more than credited for lost time (including those that expired during this period), and I'll work hard to come up with some cool bonus stuff shortly as well.

Just fixed the sorting in the user database, so if you couldn't log in to Mini-IAM yesterday, give it a try now.

Hey, IAM members! I've just fixed the experience review system, and it's drawing off the same password file as Mini-IAM, so if you're bored, you may be able to review experiences (and you can certainly write them).

Confirmed that all files are intact and there has been zero data loss. The full server will be back online on Tuesday or Wednesday (depending on shipping, parts, etc), but until then, I give you the somewhat pathetic replacement: Mini-IAM.

GOOD NEWS! The server is running perfectly at CT/Mike's (thanks again!!!), although on a temporarily transplanted power supply. All the files and everything else appears to be intact, although it will undergo some more testing, and then probably be off to the manufacturer for a warranty replacement.
So nothing to worry about, things will be back up and running in a couple days, and I'll probably post a toy tomorrow, so check back here...

The server has arrived at CT's office. I'll have more info for you later, and even if IAM isn't back up (which I don't expect for a few days still, but you never know), we'll try and get some functionality up later today or tomorrow morning so you can get in contact with other IAM members and so on. OK, UPS will deliver the server to Mike/CT tomorrow morning some time, so you can expect much more info on what's up to be posted probably tomorrow night. Mike's saved IAM on more than one occasion, so I'm very glad to have him on team!
Until IAM is back online, I'll be updating BME daily, so hey, why not spend some time browsing the main site (and submissions are still up and running of course as well). More info tomorrow so check back here for a status report!

The server is going to have to be Fedexed to iam:CT for diagnosis.
Note that the BME IRC/livechat server is still up and running. You can connect using your IAM name and password. Here are the IRC settings you'll need:
Server: bmeworld.comSo if my IAM username is "glider" and my IAM password is "noserver", then I need to log on with "glider" as my username and "glider:noserver" as my IRC password. Note that if you have spaces or unusual characters in your username you won't be able to use the IRC unless you have an alias already set up.
Port: 6667
Username: your IAM username
Password: username:password

The machine definitely won't boot, so I'm going to have to courier it out of there to deal with the problem in person, so there definitely will be a few days of downtime.

I'm having some sort of hardware problem with the IAM server and can not get it to boot properly. It's currently being diagnosed but it might take a couple days to get things back online. Just check back here and at the main URL for updates.
Sorry for the inconvenience, and I'm doing everything I can to get things back up and running. At this point I have no reason to believe that any data has been lost,
Shannon
